Fast Boats from Sanur: Gili, Nusa Penida & Lembongan (2026 Guide)
A practical guide to Sanur Harbour: where it is, how long the crossings take, check-in times, luggage, the Nusa Penida levy, and what to pack.

Sanur is the main fast-boat hub for Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan (Ceningan is reached via Lembongan), and one of the departure points for direct boats to the Gili Islands. If you're staying in Sanur, the harbour is minutes away. Here's how it works.
Where is Sanur Harbour?
Sanur Harbour (Pelabuhan Sanur) is on Jl. Matahari Terbit, Sanur Kaja, at the north end of Sanur beach. The modern terminal was inaugurated in November 2022 and replaced the old system of wading out to boats from the beach. Inside you'll find operator check-in counters, seating and toilets. There's parking for cars and scooters, but it gets crowded on busy mornings.
How long are the crossings?
| Route | Typical crossing | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sanur → Nusa Penida | 30–45 min | Many daily departures, roughly 06:30–17:00. Boats land at different points (e.g. Banjar Nyuh, Sampalan, Buyuk, Toya Pakeh), so check yours. |
| Sanur → Nusa Lembongan | About 30 min | Frequent departures through the day. |
| Sanur → Gili Trawangan / Gili Air | About 3–3.5 hours | Fewer direct boats, usually leaving between 08:30 and 10:30. |
Times are from published 2026 timetables. Operators change schedules with the season and weather, so treat these as a guide and confirm with your operator.
Sanur or Padang Bai for the Gilis?
Padang Bai, in East Bali, is closer to Lombok, so the sea crossing to the Gilis is shorter from there. Sanur makes sense if you're already staying in south Bali and want to skip the drive east. The boat ride is longer, but the total door-to-door time can be similar.
Check-in and boarding
- Arrive 30–45 minutes before departure. Allow about an hour in peak season.
- Check in at your operator's counter with your e-ticket. You'll get a boarding pass, sticker or wristband, depending on the company.
- Large bags are tagged and loaded by the crew. Keep valuables, medication and a light layer with you.
- Wear shoes that can get wet, and pack electronics in a dry bag.
Island fees
From 1 September 2026, Klungkung Regency charges a tourism levy at attractions on Nusa Penida. It's reported as Rp 25,000 per adult and Rp 15,000 per child at each attraction. Details are still being clarified, so check the latest before you go and carry some cash.
What to pack (and how to come back)
- A dry bag for phones and passports; spray on the open deck is normal
- A separate bag for wet swimwear and towels for the return trip
- Motion-sickness tablets if you're prone. The Badung Strait can be rough, especially on the longer Gili crossing.
- Travel light. Leave anything you don't need at your Sanur hotel, and drop your laundry with us before you go so it's clean when you're back.
